Michigan Students Studying in Japan Feel Tremors
Michigan students and colleagues studying abroad say they felt tremors from the historic earthquake, but are all safe.

Streets are flooded Friday, March 11, after a quake and tsunami in Kesennuma. Japan is reeling in the wake of the 8.9-magnitude quake.

Students and Staff from the Japan Center for Michigan Universities say they felt tremors from the historic 8.9 magnitude earthquake, but are all safe. They have reported no damage.

The 45 students enrolled in the program are safely 500 miles from the epicenter of the quake in the City of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Seven students are from MSU.

The Michigan-based study-abroad program works with 15 Michigan universities. Students from 5 Michigan universites are currently studying there through the program.

An MSU spokesperson says students will not be brought back to the U.S. and all programs, including those that have not yet departed, will continue as planned.
