The Woodward Dream Cruise celebrates what's in the automotive industry's rearview mirror, but the improving view out the windshield is helping boost spirits among enthusiasts.
The Detroit area's annual love fest with cruising in old muscle officially kicks off Saturday, though cars and crowds have been growing for days along Woodward Avenue between Ferndale and Pontiac.
The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report Friday that many observers feel upbeat this year after a tumultuous 2009 that included the bankruptcy reorganizations of General Motors and Chrysler.
GM is back at the cruise after skipping out last year, but the automaker is using less space for displays. Chrysler and Ford Motor Co. likewise have maintained their presence on the route.
