The "Spirit of Detroit" has worn Pistons, Red Wings and Shock jerseys following professional championships by those city sports team.
The 26-foot-tall bronze statue outside the Coleman Young Municipal Building downtown will be robed in an oversized "I'm In, We're In" T-shirt from next Wednesday to Sept. 1 as part of the public school district's enrollment campaign.
Three hundred square feet of fabric will be needed to make the shirt.
Officials say the statue will serve as a focal point for a Thursday back to school parade and rally.
The updated enrollment effort is centered on new academic initiatives, including expanded time for reading and mathematics.
The district is hoping to meet a 77,314-student goal this year.
