Firefighter EMT Trainee
CITY OF LANSING
Salary:
Starting Salary: $22,160.00 per year. $42,756.00 per year. (Upon Completion of LFD Training Academy)

Description:
Participates in an intensive training program in Basic Firefighting and Emergency Medical Services. Candidates who achieve Firefighter trainee status will be upgraded to Firefighter I status upon completion of City of Lansing Fire Department training and successful attainment of State Firefighter I and II certification, along with National Registry EMT license.

THE CITY OF LANSING GIVES PREFERENCE TO QUALIFIED LANSING RESIDENTS IN HIRING FOR ALL CITY EMPLOYMENT. MILITARY VETERANS ARE ENCOURAGED TO APPLY.

Requirements:
• Must be able to work 24 hour shifts, including working weekends and holidays, as well as an overtime basis.
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age or older
• Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
• Must possess a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record as defined by the Michigan Department of State and City of Lansing driving record standards.
• Must not have pending, or have been convicted of any felony charges and pass a criminal history record check.
• Must meet physical standards as determined by the City's Medical Director.
• Possess good moral character as determined by a favorable City of Lansing background investigation.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED. Firefighter I and II, EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), or Paramedic certification preferred. Candidates who have earned an Associate's or Bachelor's Degree OR up to 24 college semester credits are eligible to apply. Candidates MUST submit Official College Transcripts. Official College Transcripts must be enclosed in a sealed envelope – mailed directly from the college to the City of Lansing Department of Human Resources, 4th floor City Hall, Attn: Regina Wilson, 124 W Michigan Avenue, Lansing MI 48933. Proof of request for college transcripts is acceptable and may also be submitted with the online City of Lansing job application at www.lansingmi.gov .

A cost of $50.00 is associated with taking the ACT WorkKeys assessment (Observation, Applied Math, and Locating Information) test. Candidates who achieve a passing skill level on all WorkKeys assessments will be contacted and scheduled for the Lansing Fire Department Physical Ability Test (PAT).

Make checks payable to City of Lansing Fire Department. Only certified checks or money orders will be accepted. Payments for Lansing Fire Department Physical Agility testing are due the date of testing at the site location. Valid Driver's License or State picture identification is required.

Candidates who are notified as being eligible to take the City of Lansing Fire Department Physical Ability test MUST produce the completed Physicians Waiver form prior to participating in the City of Lansing Fire Department Physical Ability test. Candidates MUST also pass the City of Lansing Fire Department Physical Ability test. A cost of $45.00 is associated with taking the City of Lansing Fire Department Physical Ability test. TEST TAKERS WILLN NOT BE PERMITTED TO TEST WITHOUT THE COMPLETED PHYSICIAN'S WAIVER FORM.

Work Based Learning/Mentoring Coordinator
LANSING COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Salary:
$19.91 per hour

Description:
This is a grant funded position that develops, implements, maintains and monitors the Work-Based Learning (WBL) and mentoring components of the HSDCI program. This position establishes and maintains activities to develop and secure WBL opportunities for HSDCI students through coordination with the college’s Career and Employment Services Department, and other College and community resources. This position also facilitates the recruitment of potential mentors and provides support to them and the students before, during, and after the match. This position works with HSDCI staff, external and internal resources and stakeholders to both develop components and manage the implementation and oversight of the day-to-day operations of the WBL and mentoring components.

Essential Duties:

• Develop and oversee the work-base learning component of the HSDCI. Duties include: identifying employers to include for profit and non-profit organizations that will provide students with opportunities to gain work experience through paid/unpaid internships; arranging career exploration activities; securing guest speakers; arranging job shadows, matching students with available internship opportunities.
• Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, employers and community resources to establish a pool of mentors and possible WBL opportunities to include internship.
• Coordinate with Career and Employment Services to prepare HSDCI students for WBL opportunities through Team Time sessions workshops on interviewing techniques, resume – writing, job-retention skills and attitudes, etc.
• Maintains an awareness of HSDCI’s culture, purpose, activities, and plans and works with students to strengthen their ability to operate successfully in the program through mentorship.
• Identify mentors and oversee the development and implementation of a mentorship component to support and coach HSDCI students in sustaining their goal to achieve a high school diploma and implement their EDP for continuing post-secondary education and employment.
• Develop a mechanism for assessing the effectiveness of the WBL and mentoring components of HSDCI and strategies to include gathering and analyzing data, producing reports and making recommendations for program improvement.
• Develop a systematic mechanism for building occupational courses into the student’s schedule based on career interests and skills identified through Team Time.

Requirements:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a Business related discipline, Human Resources, Career Advising, Career and Technical or Industrial Education is required.
• Minimum of three years related experience in business, marketing, public relations, employment services or an area-related to job development is required.
• Valid Michigan drivers licenses, safe driver’s record and use of personal vehicle.
