ISTANBUL (AP) -- Turkish media reports say suspected Kurdish rebels have detonated a landmine in eastern Turkey, killing eight police officers.
Anadolu News Agency says the attack occurred in Bingol province on Sunday, and that the mine exploded as a police vehicle drove along a highway. It says nine other police officers were wounded.
The attack comes amid a surge in fighting between Turkish security forces and Kurdish rebels who seek self-rule in southeastern Turkey.
