MOSCOW - An important Russian lawmaker warned the former Soviet satellite country of Georgia and NATO today (Thursday).
Alexi Pushkov, chairman of the State Duma Committee on Foreign Affairs, said Russia will react sharply and negatively if Georgia joins NATO.
Pushkov said he doesn't question Georgia's right to join to NATO, but said quote, "We have our rights too."
He said Russian support of NATO operations in Afghanistan could be jeopardized along with Russia's relations with NATO itself.
Russia and Georgia fought a brief but bloody war over sovereignty of two territories in 2008.
