PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) -- Haiti's government has hired a one-time Clinton administration official seeking to influence U.S. officials who pledged $3 billion after the 2010 earthquake devastated the impoverished nation's capital.
Lobbyist Walter Corley says he has been focusing on how to stem a deadly cholera outbreak ever since he was hired by the Haitian government in April. He says his contract lasts for a year and he is being paid $5,000 a month.
Corley helped manage the 1992 Wisconsin presidential primary campaign for Bill Clinton. After Clinton took office as presdient, Corley was named trade ombudsman for the U.S. Customs Service. He later founded a Detroit freight company named COR Logistics.
