PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) -- An attack on a U.S. government vehicle has left two people dead and five wounded in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar.

Police say the vehicle -- an SUV -- was rammed by a car filled with explosives. The attack happened after the vehicle left the U.S. Consulate and was traveling through a section that hosts international organizations.

The identities of the victims are unclear, but a police spokesman says an officer said some of the wounded were foreigners.

Peshawar is near Pakistan's tribal region, the main sanctuary for Taliban and al-Qaida militants in the country. Attacks against American targets are relatively rare because of the extensive security measures taken by the U.S. government. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
