LONDON (AP) -- It's a familiar scene -- people lining up outside bookstores to be the first to get the new book by J.K. Rowling. But this time, the people lining up were adults -- waiting for the first grown-up book from the author of the Harry Potter series.
No wizard costumes were seen in the crowds as British bookshops opened their doors early.
The book, called "The Casual Vacancy," is being released five years after the last book in the boy wizard saga. It's already number one on Amazon's U.S. chart.
Many of the early buyers were Harry Potter fans who, like the author, have moved on to more adult fare.
Grace Proctor, a 23-year-old "massive" Potter fan, was the first to buy the book at one London store. She says of Rowling, "She's such an amazing writer, I don't think she can go wrong."
