Nurse Practitioner Linda Eckerson at McLaren Greater Lansing-DeWitt Family Medicine has been seeing patients with concussions, especially kids falling off ATVs and jet skis.

Symptoms of a concussion include: headache, temporary loss of consciousness, confusion, amnesia surrounding the traumatic event, dizziness or "seeing stars," ringing in the ears, nausea, vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue.

You need to seek medical attention if you believe you have a concussion.

If you didn't lose consciousness, wait until the symptoms are gone before returning to normal activities. Always take a break after a concussion.

A concussion is a traumatic brain injury caused by a sudden, direct blow or bump to the head. Usually they don't cause a loss of consciousness, so some people have concussions and don't realize it.
