WILLIAMSTON (WILX)-- A high school newspaper ends the year with some insensitive and racial comments.

The Williamston high school paper was written by seniors about seniors, and some parents think parts of it went too far.

The comments in question were meant to be jokes. They were part of the "predictions" section. In the section guesses are made about each seniors future. But instead of being funny, some parents say some of the predictions in Thursdays paper were insensitive and too racial.

"My son came home and mentioned some things that had been written that really were not good," said parent Rob Couturier.

Some of the comments parents are upset over are:
"He spends the rest of his days on the side of the road in a recliner."
"She creates a dating site for white women looking for black counterparts, and has eleven chocolate babies."
"She falls in love with a chocolate man, and has mocha babies."

Assistant Principal Mike Freeman says the seniors that wrote the comments, and the teacher advisor, have been talked to. Nothing more will be done about it.

"There's not much they can do about it now, the kids have graduated," said Couturier.

Freeman says the school will not be canceling the paper because of the comments. There will be a paper for the 2014 graduating class. The teacher advisor for the paper has assured Freeman that comments of this nature won't happen again.

Some parents are happy to keep the paper, but ask that more adults check it before printing next time.

"I'd hate to have the paper stop because there's a lot of positive things in there. Maybe just have a couple different staff members outside of the group check it next time," said Couturier.
