SPRINGPORT, JACKSON CO.- The Springport schools athletics boosters are doing all it can to save the position of the school's athletic trainer. According to Jack Bates, one of the boosters, the Springport school district will no longer be able to afford to employ the school's athletic trainer, Kelly Lane. The boosters are working to raise the $16,000 needed to pay for her services in the 2010-2011 school year. As a trainer, Lane attends to the athletes injuries and checks on their physical conditioning. Bates says Lane has been very valuable to the school's athletics program, attending most every home sports event.
Friday evening, the Springport Athletics Boosters will be having a "Keep Kelly" Spaghetti Dinner to raise money. The fund-raising dinner runs from 4pm to the start of the basketball game (approx. 6:30pm) at the Springport High School cafeteria. The cost is $5 per person. Any donations are also appreciated.
The boosters have also been holding 50-50 raffles at all sporting events, and various sales and auctions to raise money.
