$3 Million Grant Aims to Boost Access to Clean Water and Reliable Energy

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- A $3 million University of Michigan grant aims to help researchers find ways to improve access to clean water, reliable energy and fresh food in developing and developed nations.

The REFRESCH project is short for Researching Fresh Solutions to the Energy/ Water/Food Challenge in Resource-Constrained Environments. The University of Michigan announced Thursday that the effort involves researchers from across campus.

The project is based at the University of Michigan Energy Institute and will begin working in Gabon and Kazakhstan as well as Michigan.

The grant is part of the Ann Arbor university's 5-year, $50 million "Third Century Initiative."
