Two Meridian Township men are in Ingham County Jail for allegedly vandalizing Haslett Middle School.

17-year-old Ryan Moberly and 18-year-old Seth Ellison were arraigned Saturday morning on several charges. Moberly is charged with breaking and entering, malicious destruction and possession of burglary tools. Ellison received charges of breaking and entering, along with a charge of malicious destruction.

The two are charged with causing about $100,000 worth of damage at Haslett Middle School either late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
Computers were broken, windows smashed, and fire extinguishers were set off. In addition, an emergency shower in a science room had been left on for hours, causing extensive water damage.

Classes were canceled for three days while the building was repaired. Meridian Township Police say they are still investigating the incident.

Many have attacked the parents of these young men. I know Ryan's father has been totally involved with his son through out his life. Sometimes it just doesn't work. There are many things that are going on with the teens that everyone doesn't know about. ADHD... OCD... many other things that are against the person keeping them from having a normal life. This is not an excuse... but many don't understand. This father is at his wits end and should not be attacked.

These men should be forced to pay back all $100K worth of damages, even if it takes them fifteen years. That doesn't even count the time and money lost by the parents who had to take off work for three days in order to watch their kids. Our family lost ten hours with no pay that week, and that was a month's worth of our gasoline budget. Jail time, or extensive (and very public) community service, plus financial restitution. Dress them in orange and have them clean up all the litter out of our green spaces. Make them fix potholes for a year. Make them serve in the middle school hot lunch line so that they can answer the questions of the middle schoolers who will, each one of them, inevitably ask "Why???"
