Consumer Alert: Mr. Coffee Recalls Single Cup Brewers

NEW YORK (AP) -- More than 600,000 Mr. Coffee single cup brewers are being recalled because of a potential burn hazard.
The units are imported by Jarden Consumer Solutions.
The company, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, said Thursday that they are recalling 520,000 units in the U.S. and 80,700 in Canada.
A build-up of steam in the water reservoir can force the brewing chamber open and expel hot coffee grounds and water.
Jarden has received 164 reports of the brewing chamber opening due to steam pressure, including about 59 reports in the U.S. and two in Canada of burn injuries to consumers' face, upper torso and hands.
Consumers should contact Jarden at 800-993-8609 for details on getting a free replacement unit.

I complained about this back in January and the company blew it off blaming it on the kcups being too full. I finally got tired of cleaning up the mess after the explosions and stopped using it and bought a keurig. I wish they would have given us the option of replacement or refund.

That's the problem these days. Nobody still living has the experience of operating a steam engine or a boiler. When the temps get over 200F, you have to open valves to bleed off the excess pressure or you will have problems. Nobody ever had recalls on Percolators did they?

I hear the Keurigs are better...have been thinking of getting one. I still use an old-fashioned 12-cup brewer and waste a lot of coffee if I don't have time for a second cup. Diane, do you like yours?

I just had a Keurig Mini Cup do that. I called them and a replacement was at my home within 3 days.
