About 245,000 window blinds and shades, many sold in Meijer stores, are being recalled because children's necks can become entangled in the window coverings' cords and they can strangle.
No incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with these recalled blinds and shades, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, which announced the recalls Tuesday.
The recall includes 240,000 Innovations and "At Home with Meijer" Roman shades and roll-up blinds. They were made in Taiwan and sold at Meijer stores and on the Web site of the Grand Rapids, Mich., company between January 2004 and December 2009. The Roman shades were made with fabric or bamboo, and the roll-up blinds were produced with bamboo.
Also recalled were 5,000 Lutron Shading Solutions Roman shades that were made in the U.S. and sold at specialty dealers and Expo Design Centers nationwide from January 2000 through August 2009. Nearly all of these shades were professionally installed.
