90,000 More Toys Recalled Because of Lead

More than 90,000 children's products, most imported by J.C. Penney Co. Inc., were recalled Thursday for containing dangerous levels of lead, a government safety group announced.
J.C. Penney recalled Chinese-made Winnie the Pooh play sets and decorative ornaments with a horse-theme, as well as art kits made in Taiwan and Vietnam. Totaling 70,400, the toys imported and sold by J.C. Penney all had excessive levels of lead in their surface paint.
Lead is toxic if ingested by young children. Under current regulations, children's products found to have more than 0.06 percent lead accessible to users are subject to a recall.
Consumer Product Safety Commission spokeswoman Julie Vallese said this round of toy recalls is "the direct result of the commitment that was made earlier this summer of cleaning the proverbial house."
"We anticipate that we will continue to find products that are in violation, but we also anticipate that the number of products that are in violation will go down," she said.
Due to the recent increase in recalls of lead-contaminated toys, J.C. Penney asked an independent laboratory to perform additional tests on its painted toys, according to spokeswoman Darcie Brossart. This process started sometime in August, she said, and the company alerted the CPSC to a potential recall just under two weeks ago.
An additional 20,300 Chinese-made toys were recalled by three other companies, according to CPSC. Miniature Jeff Gordon NASCAR helmets by Riddell Inc., bendable dinosaur toys by Kipp Brothers, and magnetic art kits by Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores were also recalled for lead-contamination.
"What we don't want parents to do is say 'oh not another one' and do nothing about it," Vallese said. She encouraged parents not only to remove the recalled toys from children, but to follow the instructions to obtain refund or replacement products.
"Consumers do deserve to get something back for their recalled product," Vallese said.

this just up sets me to no end this is going on yet.and will continue as they say.my kids are getting clothes.for gifts.maybe a pet rat, something that don't say china.stan you know what I mean.weeks ago it was tainted pet food, then this and that, now toys.someone have a sale on LEAD.tell your kid NO you can't have that after it was given to them by mom or dad or grandparents.this makes parents out to be the bad a--.it not only hurts there little feelings, but plays with there minds.they think they have us where they want us,and the gov says we need to stay on good terms now.I wonder if someone in the white house is getting kick backs from all this or certain friends of whoever.this makes no sense our gov puts up with it.if china looses our jobs or our money, they won't find it so funny.there's just something wrong with all this.and we'd like to know the truth.

now this is normal to read this in the news.china-lead-recall.then RETURN.I'd think by now the major brand named compaines would be tired of there reputation being ruined by these china made products.but if they'd left jobs here in the states we wouldn't be going through this.greed on compaines part, and china doing very well with our jobs we need here.when we have to return a bad products we should get double our money back.it is way out of hand.how long will this be going on?they act like we will just have to put up with it.at this point anyone wanting to start new compaines here in the USA to make safe toys, please do so.we may pay more but if there safe it's worth it.YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.cheap isn't always best.I'd rather buy less toys for my children at higher prices than by bad at cheaper price.and I try to by american made.I hope when we get a new president he will not be so nice to other countries creating these problems.as well as get our jobs back here.
