“Some people just fall in love like that.”
A video showing children reacting to a controversy over a Cheerios ad featuring a biracial family has gone viral.
Cheerios had to disable comments on a YouTube video of one of their commercials that had a biracial family in it, after people left offensive comments and racial slurs on the site.
From our earlier story:
"The Cheerios ad features a young biracial girl asking her mother if Cheerios are heart healthy. The mother explains to her why they are, and the girl runs off, and pour Cheerios onto her sleeping father's chest as he naps on the couch.
The family featured in the commercial has a black father and a white mother, leading a number of people on the commercial's YouTube site to leave offensive comments on the page."
A site that records people's reactions to viral videos interviewed a number of children about the Cheerios commercial, asking them what bothered people about the commercial.
When the kids weren't able to figure out what upset people, the interviewer tells them that the biracial relationship of the family caused some people to be offended.
The children then give their thoughts about the commercial and the controversy. The video has racked up over one and a half million views on YouTube in less than forty-eight hours. You can watch it here.
