DETROIT (AP) -- Ready, aim, shutdown.

Michigan rocker and staunch firearms advocate Ted Nugent tells The Associated Press the government needed to be shut down because it's "so out of control" and full of "fraud and deceit and corruption."

Nugent drew the attention of the Secret Service last year when he said he would be "dead or in jail" if President Barack Obama is re-elected.

He said during Monday's interview that he wasn't making threats -- he was afraid for his life and others because law-abiding farmers, ranchers and small business owners have been victims of overzealous government agents.

Known as the "Motor City Madman," Nugent is releasing a live double CD and DVD set this month. He says he's blessed with "unbelievable energy" at "65 clean and sober years"
