A General Mills ad for the cereal Cheerios has ignited a controversy online.
The Cheerios ad features a young biracial girl asking her mother if Cheerios are heart healthy. The mother explains to her why they are, and the girl runs off, and pour Cheerios onto her sleeping father's chest as he naps on the couch.
The family featured in the commercial has a black father and a white mother, leading a number of people on the commercial's YouTube site to leave offensive comments on the page.
The use of racial slurs in the comments prompted General Mills to remove comments from the video, and disable the comments feature. General Mills has stated that it has no plans to pull the advertisement.
