In our New 10 Voice of the Voter poll, incumbent Mark Schauer has a 6 percentage point lead over Republican Tim Walberg. 45 percent to 39 percent. 7 percent of voters are leaning toward a 3rd party candidate and 9 percent are undecided.

"The problem Walberg has is among those independent voters --- he has that high unfavorable rating, Schauer has a positive rating," said Epic MRA pollster Bernie Porn.

While Schauer has the lead now the independent and undecided voters could make this an even tighter race.

"Based on the partisan leanings that we could detect from those voters, we apportioned them to the candidates and indeed Walberg does narrow the margin and it becomes 46 percent to 43 percent with only 3 percent undecided."

"I'm just undecided. I'm really undecided."

Cheryl Burrows-Panasiewicz may have a Mark Schauer yard sign but she's far from locking in her vote for the Democrat.

"Mark Schauer would really have to put it out there --- what his plan is for home health care, what his plan is for education and the seniors and social security. He has to say what his plan is."

And same goes for Tim Walberg.

"He'd have to step up to the plate and stop being so negative about his opponent and really tell us what he's going to do," said Burrows-Panasiewicz.

She is part of a key percentage of voters in the 7th district who are torn between the candidates.

Porn says Walberg does not have as strong of a support base from the Republicans as Schauer has from the Democrats but it's ultimately a matter of who shows up to the polls.

"A lot of your remaining undecided voters reside among independent voters and it's likely that Schauer should pick up most of the independent voters as he heads toward the election simply because of favorability rating between two candidates," said Porn.

But some voters say the favorability may not last if they don't get what they need to make a decision.

"I'm looking for some answers as to how they're going to help me and people like me," said Burrows-Panasiewicz.
