Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI)

DETROIT -- Michigan's attorney general has charged four campaign staffers following his investigation into fake and duplicate signatures on the nominating petitions submitted by former U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter.
Attorney General Bill Schuette announced charges Thursday ranging from forgery and conspiracy to falsely signing election documents.
Charged in the case are deputy district director Don Yowchuang, district director Paul Seewald, district representative Mary Melissa Turnbull and staffer Lorianne O'Brady.
McCotter isn't charged.
Schuette says there was no specific, direct evidence of McCotter's involvement, but said he was "asleep at the switch." Schuette wouldn't rule out more charges in the future if evidence is found.
The petition scandal knocked the congressman off the ballot and led to his resignation July 6.
