GM Recalling Some 2011 Crossovers

General Motors is recalling about 100,000 crossover vehicles to fix seat belts that could fail in a crash.

GM says the recall involves 2011 model year versions of the Cadillac SRX, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain. The automaker says the seat belt buckle anchor for the driver and front passenger seats could break apart in a crash.

GM says it discovered the problem during testing in September. Dealers will modify the seat belt buckles free of charge.

The recall is expected to begin in mid-January.

Owners can contact Cadillac at (866) 982-2339, Chevrolet at (800) 630-2438 and GMC at (866) 996-9463. They can also consult the GM owner center website at

Good job GM! It doesn't matter where they were built, the fact that the defect was detected, and prompt action to correct it speaks well for the company. I am sure some other companies might have tried to sweep this problem under the rug and hope it went away. Thank you. Ricardo

None of these crossovers are made in Lansing. The GMC Terrain and Chevrolet Equinox are built in Ingersoll, Ontario at the CAMI plant, and the 2010/2011 SRX is built in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. The pre-2009 SRX was built here, but none of the recalled SUVs were built here.

The Caddilac SRX is no longer made in Lansing. None of these cars are built locally.
