WASHINGTON (AP) -- Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton is heading to Capitol Hill for closed-door classified briefings on the deadly attack that killed the American ambassador to Libya and three other embassy employees.
Before speaking separately to members of the House and Senate on Thursday, Clinton said she would discuss security at the consulate before and during the Sept. 11 incident. She said she would be joined by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter.
Clinton also announced that, in line with federal law, she will appoint an independent panel to look at circumstances of the attack in Benghazi. The so-called Accountability Review Board will be chaired by retired diplomat Thomas Pickering, she said.
