Statistics just released by the FBI show that burglaries in Lansing were up 25% during the first six months of 2011. Lansing police attribute the increase to a series of burglaries. According to a release from the department, it is hopeful that arrests in those crimes will slow the pace of home break-ins.
Lansing Police Chief Teresa Szymanski says there is some encouraging information in the report. It shows violent crime down by 5.5% and property crimes were down by 3.1%
Additionally, larcenies were down by 16% and rape declined 22%.
