LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan treasury officials hope to raise $88 million through a tax amnesty program.
State officials kicked off a public advertising campaign to promote the program on Tuesday. The campaign will feature TV, radio and other advertising aimed at reaching delinquent taxpayers across the state.
The tax amnesty program was approved by state lawmakers in the last legislative session. It's scheduled to run from May 15 through June 30.
It will be available for individual and business taxpayers covering return periods that ended on or before Dec. 31, 2009. Some of the taxes covered include the income tax, the sales tax and the Michigan Business Tax
Penalties would be waived for those who pay their taxes and interest through the program.
