LANSING (WILX)-- Are you feeling lucky? The Mega Millions jackpot is up to $636 million dollars, which is just 20-million away from the largest U.S. jackpot ever.
The odds may not be in anyone's favor, but tell that to the thousands of people buying lottery tickets Tuesday in Lansing.
"Everyone's so excited," said customer Patrice Williams; "and if it goes past Christmas it's going to be up to a billion."
In Michigan, Mega Million ticket sales are up more than 56 percent from Friday.
Approximately more than 250,000 tickets are being sold ever hour in the state.
"I have people walking five miles just to play a lottery ticket. I probably sold five hundred to six hundred tickets just this morning," said Rubal Sharma, Manager of Lansing's Downtown Party Store.
The one time cash payout for Tuesday's jackpot is more than $341 million dollars according to the Michigan Lottery. Enough to last a life-time.
"To put it in perspective, that's a thousand dollars spent ever hour for 73 years to spend that much money," said Jeff Holyfield, spokesperson for Michigan Lottery.
It's the second largest jackpot in U.S. history, but the largest ever going into the holidays.
"This could end up being one of the all time greatest Christmas gifts for somebody if they get the winning ticket for the Mega Millions," said Holyfield.
If no-one wins the $636 million dollar jackpot, it's projected that by Friday it will be up to $950 million.
You have until 10:45 pm to get your ticket. We'll have the winning numbers for you tonight at eleven.
