Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero has filed 30,000 petition signatures to get on the Democratic gubernatorial ballot.

Bernero turned in the petitions Thursday to the secretary of state. Candidates must submit least 15,000 valid signatures to qualify for the Aug. 3 primary ballot.

Democratic House Speaker Andy Dillon turned in his signatures last week. Bernero says he turned in signatures from all 83 counties, while Dillon's signatures were from fewer than 60 counties.

State Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith, the third Democrat in the race, has until Tuesday to provide her signatures.

Of the five Republicans running for governor, U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra, businessman Rick Snyder and Attorney General Mike Cox have filed petitions. Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard and state Sen. Tom George have not.

Virg has a daughter that was dating a man that was murdered here in Lansing. The murders were drug related and in my opinion, we don't need a govenor that has a child involved in this kind of activity. Where is she at now (Africa), and why hasn't he allowed her to speak with the police to help solve the murder?

The winner will not be coming out of the democrat primary. They have been in complete control of this control for over 3 years and they have made it a mess. We need a the philosophy of the green party to reduce the need for government handouts.
