AAA Michigan says gasoline prices are up 5.5 cents per gallon over the past week to a statewide average of $2.89.

The auto club said Monday the statewide average is 85.4 cents per gallon higher than last year at this time.

Of the cities it surveys, AAA Michigan says the cheapest price for self-serve regular fuel is in the Saginaw/Bay City area, where it's $2.79 a gallon. The highest average can be found in the Traverse City area at $2.96.

Dearborn-based AAA Michigan surveys 2,800 Michigan gas stations daily.

    If you haven't figured it out yet, the bigger companies dont' really care about the fixed incomes or the poor, they are more concerned about lining their pockets with the green.

    So, how long do we figure it'll be before we, yet again, hear of record profits for the oil companies (you know, just like we did before when they were gouging us over gas prices)?
