A major development in mid-Michigan health care today.

Sparrow Health System is selling its Physician Health Plan insurance companies to the Blue Care Network of Michigan.

That will affect more than 80,000 customers throughout mid-Michigan. However, Sparrow says there won't be any immediate changes in services.

Currently, the PHP unites employee 132 people. A Sparrow spokesman says both the hospital and the Blue Care Network are committed to preserving as many jobs as possible.

It's not a done deal yet. It requires state regulatory approval, but that is expected with a couple of months.
