A hospital in the heart of Ford country says it will offer free medical care to those recently laid off from the automaker.
The Detroit News reports Wednesday that Oakwood Healthcare Inc.'s main hospital in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn plans to open a clinic for the care on its first floor. An opening date hasn't been set.
The clinic initially will be open 2 1/2 days a week and will be staffed by volunteer doctors. Hospital officials say patients must have documents proving their previous employment.
Hospital Chief of Staff Dr. George Hnatiuk says Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. has been the hospital's biggest supporter, and the 50-year-old facility is on land donated by the automaker.
