Michigan Dairy Closing

The Country Fresh dairy plant in Flint is closing after 80 years of operation and at least 110 employees will lose their jobs.

The Flint Journal and WNEM-TV report Friday the plant will close in mid-August.

Marguerite Copel, spokeswoman for Dallas-based parent company Dean Foods Co., says the company has too much production in the area.

She says the Flint dairy's production of milk, flavored milk, ice cream mix and orange juice will shift to County Fresh plants in Livonia and Grand Rapids.

The dairy employs about 180 workers. Copel says 110 employees in production will lose their jobs but some may be able to transfer to Livonia and Grand Rapids. She said some of the plant's 68 or so drivers also may lose their jobs.

Where's the tax breaks for this company? Another example of the lack of leadship from Aunt Jen, picking winners and losers. If only Country Fresh would have marketed a "GREEN" milk product or offered a lavish over sea, all expense trip, the Gov. may have helped. Michigan needs it's own community organizer to fix these kind of problems.
