Warmer Temps Don't Stop Skiers

The recent thaw hasn't hurt business too much at winter sports destinations in northern Michigan.

Part of the reason is the cold weather that the state experienced for much of December.

The chilly temperatures let ski resorts put their snowmaking machines to good use.

A Crystal Mountain spokeswoman says the slopes there have lost only a few inches from their base.

Joan O'Neill says there have been a lot of skiers this month at the Thompsonville resort, especially on weekends.

The unseasonably mild temperatures that arrived about a week ago have had more of an affect on southern venues.

Officials closed the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex on Friday and Ottawa County's Pigeon Creek Park on Monday.
