You'd better think twice before writing a check you can't afford, especially this holiday season.
The Ingham County Prosecutor's Office is cracking down, collecting money from those penning bad checks. The Prosecutor's Office established its bad check restitution program about a year and a half ago and it's been very successful.
More than $156,000 has been collected to date. Retailers can turn over bad checks worth any dollar amount up $2,500 and the Prosecutor's Office takes care of the rest.
