Governor Granholm Tuesday added eight Japanese companies to her list of two that have promised to add jobs to their operations in Michigan.

Eight companies agreed to invest about $30 million in their operations in the state and create at least 150 new jobs over the next several years.

The Democratic governor attributed the commitments to the work done of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and her visit last week to Japan.

She called the weeklong trip "an exclamation point to the ground work that we had been laying."

Granholm did not have specific details on the number of jobs or size of the investment from each company. Spokeswoman Liz Boyd said that information will be released by the companies in the coming months.
