Officials in the Upper Peninsula are giving the summer tourism season mixed reviews.

The manager of McLain State Park in Houghton County's Hancock Township says this has been the slowest July he has seen in 20 years. An official at Fort Wilkins State Park in Copper Harbor also said demand for camp sites is down.

However, the host at the Houghton RV Park says business has been brisk.

Some tourism officials were concerned that high gasoline prices would put a dent in summer travel, but they say people seem to have accepted the cost of filling their tanks.
