As more children are being diagnosed with the adult-form of diabetes, the epidemic is growing. A spokeswoman for the American Diabetes Association says out of the children born in 2000, one in four will become diabetic within their lifetime.
This is why organizers of the School Walk for Diabetes at Averill Elementary School started now, teaching kids what diabetes is and what they need to do to prevent getting type two diabetes.
The students raised thousands of dollars and it will go towards research for type two and type one, or juvenile, diabetes.
