Michigan Unemployment Nation's Highest

Michigan had the highest unemployment rate among the 50 states last month.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today that Michigan's 7.5 percent unemployment rate in February was higher than Alaska's 7.2 percent and South Carolina's 7.1 percent.

The national unemployment rate in February was 5.4 percent.

Michigan has been among the states with the highest jobless rates for the past few months.

The state's seven-point-one percent unemployment rate in January was tied with Mississippi for the nation’s second-highest, only behind Alaska.
