Michigan Police laced up their running shoes and hit the pavement for the midnight madness law enforcement torch run.

The run benefits the Special Olympics .

Michigan State Police recruits teamed up with State Police, and Department of Corrections Officers.

The police didn't let the rain stop them from running their portion of the race with the torch. They ran five miles, ending up in east lansing,, where they passed the torch on to other runners.

The 750-mile torch run started monday in the U.P. and ends Friday in Sterling Heights.

Last year Michigan officers raised one million dollars for Special Olympics Michigan, and they say they've already exceeded that mark for this year.
