A woman from Eaton County was sentenced to two years probation for neglecting her animals, three of which were found dead in a dumpster last month.
82-year-old Diane Willis of Brookfield Township pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal neglect Thursday. The judge also told her she can no longer own any animals and Animal Control has the authority to search her home at anytime.
She must also pay thousands of dollars in restitution for the care of the nearly two dozen animals that were seized from her home by Animal Control officers. Three of her dogs were found frozen to death and tossed in a dumpster behind the Payless Shoe Store in Charlotte. She admitted to owning those dogs, and told police she hired a man to dispose of them.
That man, 44-year-old Sonny Lee Rounds of Eaton Rapids, pleaded guilty to improper burial of an animal, a misdemeanor, last month. He admitted to putting them in the dumpster because the ground was too frozen to dig a grave. He faces up to 90 days in jail when he is sentenced in April.
