TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) -- Police say a 28-year-old woman is dead and her 33-year-old boyfriend is wounded following a shooting at an apartment in Traverse City.
Circumstances are under investigation, but Capt. Mike Ayling says the man told dispatchers it was an accidental shooting that occurred when he attempted to commit suicide. Police say the man was shot in the hand and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police haven't released the names of those involved. Ayling says the man wasn't immediately arrested and police planned to interview him.
Sandy Anderson tells the Traverse City Record-Eagle that family members are in mourning for her daughter, Monica Anderson, who was in a relationship with the man for about four years. Anderson's 9-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son also lived in the apartment.
