Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has attended a celebration of what she says is the first utility-scale wind turbine to be manufactured and assembled in the state.
WNEM-TV reports Merrill Technologies Group presented the wind turbine to the governor at an event Friday in Saginaw County's Buena Vista Township.
Granholm says she hopes the development will be a "game changer" for the Saginaw area.
The turbine is to be shipped to the Cadillac area. There, it will begin producing energy for more than 250 homes for Detroit Edison.
Separately on Friday, Granholm announced state approval of a 15-year Renewable Energy Renaissance Zone in Holland that will house Energetx Composites, a manufacturer of wind turbine blades.
