Dr. Dennis Perry at Meridian Primary Care in Okemos is treating allergic dermatitis this week.
Allergic dermatitis encompasses rashes from any sort of skin insult, like bug bites, poison ivy, heat rash and swimmer's itch.
To treat allergic dermatitis, apply a cool compress, take antihistamines, and apply topical steroids.
More severe reactions require a doctor's visit.
Now that fall sports are starting, Dr. Perry is also treating common sports injuries like sprains and strains.
Symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising and not being able to move your joint.
To treat a sprain or strain, use the RICE method: rest, ice, compression, elevate.
