What's Going Around

You're not imagining it. Allergies are bad this year.

Dan Moore, physician assistant at McLaren Greater Lansing Internal Medicine in Lansing, says there are three reasons why allergies are unusually prevalent this year:

--People are outside and coming into contact with poison ivy
--Tree pollen is now a major contributor to hay fever
--Wet, rainy weather is bad for people with mold allergies

Symptoms of allergies include: runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, coughing, itchy eyes and nose, and dark circles under the eyes.

Avoiding allergens is key. Stay inside on dry, windy days and remove clothes you've worn outside.

Use eye drops and cold compresses for eye discomfort. Take over-the-counter antihistamines for relief.

If you have asthma, stick to your prescribed treatment regimen.
