Jackson - A special Veterans Day observance was held in Jackson for the dedication of a new monument. Veterans, their family members, and dozens of other proud Americans gathered in downtown Jackson's Withington Memorial park to salute those who've served.
At the center of this ceremony, an unveiling of the new "War on Terror" monument. The marker consists of two granite columns representing the Twin Towers before the 9-11 terrorist attacks. On one, the names of four Jackson County soldiers who lost their lives serving our country: Army Specialist Donald Wheeler Jr., Marine Lance Corporal Brent Beeler, Sergeant Matthew Soper, and Sergeant James Collins.
The dedication was marked by the laying of wreaths by members of area VFW groups at all the war monuments in the park. Two military fly-overs accompanied the ceremony.
