Walberg's Win

People living in the 7th Congressional District have a new, but familiar face when it comes to their representation in Congress. But one pollster says Tim Walberg's victory is due in part to a top to bottom Republican sweep.

"I think the issue is more important to decide how [the Democrats] are going to work with our side. It's not us or them. It's the American people," said Walberg.

Walberg says he was confident that he would win based on his own internal poll and talking to voters. He says he knew this was his time.

"We though we'd win it. I don't think we got into the race to not win it," said Walberg.

But Epic MRA pollster Bernie Porn says Walberg's win came on the coat tails of Governor-elect Rick Snyder.

"I had said if the top of the ticket for Rick Snyder .... exceeded 60 percent it would have coat tails," said Porn.

Similar coat tails that Porn believes Mark Schauer had from Barack Obama in 2008. He said that most people voted Republican across the board starting with Rick Snyder. Walberg believes his own platform helped to secure his seat. But he does admit that his voters want change from the top down.

"American people .... overwhelmingly they repudiated this adminstration's agenda --- too far, too quick, fast too much," said Walberg.

The latest Epic MRA poll had Mark Schauer leading Tim Walberg by six points -- but it was poll Walberg says he didn't put much stock in.

"We knew we were going to be on top. Just a matter of how large. I said for many months that a four point win in this district was a landslide," said Walberg. "To have a five point win or margin we're very happy with that."

Your comments about Mr. Walberg riding in on Rick Snyder's coattails doesn't take into consideration the fact that he beat three other Republicans in the primary. It is obvious to me that his message of getting rid of the Government takeover of our health care, financial institutions and the tremendous debt the current Congress laid on the backs of our children and grandchildren was the reason for his win. What surprises me is that people like you, our own Battle Creek Chamber of Commerce and local paper, even thousand of voters all overlooked the tremendous damage Mark Schauer's help building the socialist agenda of President Obama and Speaker Pelosi. Businesses in Michigan leaving or closing their doors by the hundreds, our youth leaving the state because there are no jobs here. All because of government's tax and control policies. No, Tim Walberg didn't get his job back because of Rick Snyder, he got it back because of Mark Schauer!

I hope people will be happy when we start seeing real hope in the future. Not a huge bill for our grandchildren.

I hope the people will be just as happy when Mr. Walberg starts sending their jobs overseas!
