Vietnam Vet Gets New Medals Decades After Flood

MIDLAND, Mich. (AP) -- A Vietnam War veteran from Michigan has received new service medals, nearly 40 years after the original awards were ruined by a flood.

U.S. Rep. Dave Camp presented the medals to Charles Zorn at the Republican's office in Midland on Friday. With nine medals and commendations, Camp says Zorn is one of the most-decorated constituents he's met.

Zorn lives in Houghton Lake. says he handled helicopter machine guns while serving in the U.S. Army for two years in the 1960s. His hours of combat flight totaled 850.

Zorn's medals include a Purple Heart, an Air Medal and an Army Commendation Medal for helping to rescue two Navy SEALs in the South China Sea. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
