NILES TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities in southwestern Michigan say the pilot of an ultra-light plane escaped injury after his engine failed and he crashed in a wooded field.
The Berrien County sheriff's office says the plane sustained moderate damage in Sunday's crash.
The department says the crash happened about 9:30 a.m. in Niles Township, about 10 miles north of the Indiana state line.
It says that Brian Bowen of Niles took off from Niles Airport and was circling to return when his engine stopped. It says medics examined him at the scene.
