Update: 1 Killed in US-127 Accident

LANSING TWP - One person was killed and other is seriously injured following a late morning car accident along US-127 in Lansing Township. The accident happened shortly before noon in the southbound lanes of US-127 near Grand River Avenue. Lansing Township police say the car was traveling northbound, crossed the median, drove across the southbound lanes and up an embankment of the Grand River Ave. overpass. The car rolled over onto its roof. No other cars were involved in the accident.
The driver, an 89-year-old man from East Lansing, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 86-year-old passenger is the wife of the driver. She was transported to Sparrow Hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Both sides of US-127 were closed for a time. The southbound lanes were closed for three hours, while police investigated the crash. All lanes are open now.

    I was about 200 ft behind this car and witnessed the accident. After going thru the guard rail the car was airborn for just a second, this allowed the engine to rev up and when it hit the groung the car took off like a jet and everything else stated was true. I guess this older gentleman had a stroke, heart attack or fell asleep
