Two Arrested for Stealing Metal from Charred Remains of White's Bridge

Two people have been arrested and accused of taking metal from the charred remains of White's Bridge in Ionia County.

Michigan's oldest covered bridge, was destroyed by fire sometime Sunday morning.

The suspects are a 33-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both from Orleans Township Their names haven't been released yet.

Police say they had loaded more than 300 pounds of metal from the remains of the bridge into a pickup truck and were trying to get away, when deputies stopped and arrested them.

Both are in the Ionia County Jail.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
